About
Born in the tea estates of Darjeeling, Sudhanshu Saria is a National Award-winning filmmaker. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film and Photography from Ithaca College in New York.
His most recent feature, ULAJH (2024) starring Janhvi Kapoor, Gulshan Devaiah and Roshan Mathew, is an espionage thriller he directed and co-wrote for Junglee Pictures (RAAZI, BADHAAI HO). The film released in cinemas worldwide and is now streaming on Netflix, where it debuted at number one position in the India streaming charts and also made it to the platform's global top 10 ranking for Non - English Feature.
Before that, he served as Showrunner, Writer, and Director on BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY (2024), a Young Adult series for Amazon Prime.
His company's most recent film, SANAA (2023), which he directed, wrote and produced, features Radhika Madan, Pooja Bhatt, Sohum Shah and Shikha Talsania in lead roles. The film made its World Premiere in the Official Competition at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Black Nights and then went on to festivals like the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, International Film Festival of India (Panaroma Section), and the UK Asian Film Festival where Radhika won the award for Best Actor and Sudhanshu won the award for Best Director.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK (2019), a 40-minute psychological thriller he made earlier won him India’s highest honour for film, the National Award for Best Directing in the non-Feature section. It world-premiered at Busan Film Festival, won the Best Screenplay prize at New York Indian Film Festival and was acquired on a worldwide basis by MUBI.
Saria's directorial debut, LOEV (2017), was a critically acclaimed queer road-trip romance. It played to wide critical acclaim at festivals like SXSW, Tallinn Black Nights, Frameline, Mumbai Film Festival and BFI Flare before it was acquired for release on a worldwide exclusive basis by Netflix.
Before turning to tell his own stories, Sudhanshu worked as an acquisition, development and sales executive for companies like New Films International and Peace Arch Entertainment where he helped develop, presale, finance and distribute a diverse range of film and television projects in partnership with broadcasters and distributors around the world; Kabuley, Alphabet Killer, The Tudors, Fragments to name a few.
